The Olympic flame visited GullfaksRecord-breaking production

Start of production for Tordis

Production from Tordis began on 3 June 1994. Oil and gas are produced using subsea installations and sent to Gullfaks C for processing and storage prior to transport.

The Tordis field was originally operated by Saga, but as of 2026 has for several years been operated by Equinor.

Tordis was discovered in 1987, the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1991, and production started in June 1994.[REMOVE]Fotnote: «Tordis» on Norwegian Petroleum. https://www.norskpetroleum.no/en/facts/field/tordis/ Downloaded 6 January 2026.The field is developed with a subsea manifold connected to Gullfaks C. Here the well stream is processed before the oil is transported by ship and the gas is sent ashore via pipeline.

The field has been developed in several phases, for example with the start-up of Tordis East in 1998, Borg (1999), and Tordis Southeast in 2001. All of these discoveries are considered part of Tordis.

The Tordis field has a water depth of between 150 and 220 meters. The field forms a kind of center, with Gullfaks to the south, Statfjord to the west, Vigdis and Snorre to the north, and Visund to the east. Illustration: Norwegian Offshore Directorate.
