Located 15 kilometers south of Gullfaks A, Rimfaks produces oil and gas using subsea installations. The first installations were ready in February 1999.[REMOVE]Fotnote: «Gullfaks Sør» on Norwegian Petroleum. https://www.norskpetroleum.no/en/facts/field/gullfaks-sor/ Downloaded 8 January 2026.

The production start-up at Rimfaks marked the completion of the second phase of development of the Gullfaks Sør field, of which Rimfaks is a part. Rimfaks came on stream shortly after Gullveig and just under one month before Phase I was completed.

Following the completion of Phase I, the Gullfaks Sør field has been developed and upgraded several times. The most significant of these developments was carried out to enable increased gas production.

The well stream from Gullfaks Sør is sent to Gullfaks A and C. Both platforms were modified to receive the new well stream.
